In generally the Kickboxing word explain itself kick & punch i.e. combination of kick & punch. In technical way we can say that –the kickboxing is combination fight (between two people) of kick & punch in a control manner i.e.

“Kickboxing refers to the sport of combining technique and style of boxing with kicking. Kickboxing is a standing sport and does not allow continuation of the fight once a combatant has reached the ground”

Kickboxing is a very fast growing Martial art sports in the world, leaving behind all others martial art sports it become number one game in the World. Today, About 106 Countries play this game around the world.

With so much of the information written about kickboxing, some martial artist may conclude that there is no "one" person that can claim that to have founded the sport. There are also many variations of the sport from many countries. We know of kickboxing that is Thai, Japanese, American, Indian, Chinese, and others. Each variation from each country probably claims a founder; likewise, so many international organizations, also have their own founders. There are so many theory & opinion of the origin of this game.

(1) Some Martial Artist believe that – kickboxing started in US during the 1970’s, when American karate practitioner become frustrated with strict controls on kick & punch power during the martial art competition I.e. did not allow full contact fight (kick & punch) due to this many question were raised, when the sport began about high risk of injury, as a result, safety rules were improved and protective equipments was added.

Therefore relatively new sport – there are no long term tradition is originate – the passage of time sports has under gone changes and been refined during the last two decades .during this period many famous karate players went to the boxing expert and learned all the technique of fights – In order to develop Kickboxing and improve it players moved to conditioning and fighting more times, even then they could before .they devote their maximum time in Gym and Ring. Therefore they become more toughened , with strong will power is they thought the karate fighting (initial stage – pull back system) .living behind all old traditional things they developed their punching power as well as kicking power by hitting the heavy bags and the punching pads.

(2) Some other believe that:- The true roots of Kickboxing can be found to date back 3000 years ago in far east Asia , where Muay Thai kickboxing was commonly practiced as a self defense discipline .however it gradually become more of a sport over the years.

Thailand: - Muay Thai is a fighting art that is recognized as the national sport of Thailand. Along with kicks & punches, Muay Thai fighters strike with the shins, knees and elbows, attacks opponents for various angles. Estimated to be 3,000 years old, information regarding the origins of Muay Thai has not survived the passage of time. According to the article "Muay Thai History," it is believed that the Thai people may have first developed the art of Muay Thai as a means of self-defense as they migrated from its neighbor’s country to Thailand.

(3) Another group of martial artists thinking that in the early CENTURY – Due to some reason, when Buddhist people migrate from India to Thailand & its neighbor country, where they modified their old Indian – Malla Youth (ancient style of fight) and those technique which they have used in forest again wild animal and in unfavorable conditions .it developed Muay–Thai. (Mahatma Buddha-founder of Buddhist Religion). Some believers believe that *Bodhidharma was a Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century. He is traditionally credited as the transmitter of Chan Buddhism to China, and regarded as its first Chinese patriarch.

According to Chinese legend, he also began the physical training of the monks of Shaolin Monastery that led to the creation of Shaolin kungfu. In Japan, he is known as Daruma.

Little contemporary biographical information on Bodhidharma is extant, and subsequent accounts became layered with legend.

According to the principal Chinese sources, Bodhidharma came from the Western Regions, which refers to Central Asia but may also include the Indian subcontinent, and was either a "Persian Central Asian" or a "South Indian [...] the third son of a great Indian king.Throughout Buddhist art, Bodhidharma is depicted as an ill-tempered, profusely-bearded, wide-eyed non-Chinese person. He is referred as "The Blue-Eyed Barbarian".

Osamu Noguchi, was a prominent promoter of traditional boxing in Japan in the 1950s. As cited by "Muay Thai Kickboxing Training: The History of Kickboxing," Noguchi traveled around the world to watch boxing matches, and upon a visit to Thailand, became intrigued by Muay Thai. Noguchi decided to promote a sport in that combined Muay Thai with traditional boxing and the Japanese national sport of Karate.

From Karate to Kickboxing:-

According to "Kickboxing: Basic Information", Karate was not a full-contact sport in Japan. It was scored on a point system similar to that used in fencing. Noguchi promoted the full-contact version of Karate in which the action was not halted when a fighter connected with a scoring strike. While developing this sport, Noguchi is credited with coining the name "kickboxing".

(4)  The main proponent:- that gave way to the rise of Kickboxing was Bruce – Lee, making the link with United States, making way for the future of international Kickboxing .By the late twentieth century .the sports Kickboxing was starting to take its own original form.

Therefore, we can finally say that, the Kickboxing is the modern martial art game ,strong urge for a full contact sport, over taking the rigid rules and boundaries of karate ,led to an all –new evolved version of full-contact Kickboxing .

Its rules & regulation, its language (English) are so easy which help in its popularity around the world.

On the other side , it provides a common platform to maximum martial art i.e. – Karate , Taekwon-do, Wushu, Kung-fu ,Boxing ,Jujitsu, Muay Thai & judo etc. by which maximum participation occur during its championship and help rising the popularity among the youth.
